One of our SCVID members noticed on a hot day at the beach, that our Sandbaai lifeguards were sitting in the scorching sun with no protection. After approaching them, it emerged that their sun umbrella was stolen and there is no replacement for it. They also did not have a first aid kit. She donated a gazebo, 2 chairs and a coolbox to provide them with protection and a little more comfort for the long days at the seaside, looking out for Sandbaai residents.
The lifeguards are on recess from early May until November, when they will resume their duties. The donor is hoping that at the beginning of the new season, Sandbaai beach will provide better shelter and facilities for our lifeguards, as the quiet months can be used to work towards a more functional lifeguard station.
