The Beukes family, regular beach visitors, were dismayed at the state of the public ablution at Bamboo Beach. The building looked dilapidated to the extent that no beach visitor felt comfortable even entering it. After entering the building, they were pleasantly surprised how clean it was, even though almost everything was either missing or broken. They got in contact with the chairman of the Rate Payer’s Association, who was on board with their idea to freshen up the building, and make it look inviting and safe to the public visiting the beach. They got permission from the Municipality to paint the building. They decided on painting an ‘Under the Sea’ mural on the front of the building, and the change is inspiring.

What was once avoided, is now admired. It is proof that even the most unassuming places can be transformed by a bit of imagination and a splash of paint. The overwhelming positive response from passers-by and the community has lead to more projects, and plans for projects.
